Ketubah
Ya’akov Boussidan was born in Port Said, Egypt in 1939. At age ten, he immigrated with his parents to Israel and was educated in Youth Aliyah at Kibbutz Givat-Chayim. Boussidan studied sculpture and ceramics with Rudi Lehmann and Hedwig Grossman and went on to win the Rothschild Foundation Scholarship bringing him to Goldsmith’s College in London, from where he graduated with distinction for his abstract version of Song of Songs, which also won an award at the Biennale for Prints in Monte Carlo. In London, Boussidan’s circle included Alix De-Rothschild, Yoko Ono, Peter De Francia, Claes Oldenberg and Agathe Sorel, the latter informing his approach to printmaking. The former Israeli Cultural Attaché in London, Benjamin Tammuz, used Boussidan as the inspiration for the book Bottle Parables. Boussidan was awarded the Jesselson Prize of Judaica from the Israel Museum in 1990. He is a former visiting lecturer at several colleges in England and has recently returned to live in Israel.
