Raoul Wallenberg
Moshe Galili was born into a Jewish family in Erdőbénye, Hungary on 15 March 1930; a child survivor of the Holocaust, he was kept hidden by his mother; his father was killed fighting the Nazis in Budapest. In 1948, Galili settled in Israel, completing his military service and studying at the Bezalel Art School in Jerusalem, becoming an early member of the artistic village at Ein Hod. He also studied art in Italy, at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and in London, where he settled in 1962. Galili intended his Holocaust paintings and stained glass panels to act as a reminder and educative tool for future generations. He died in London, England in 2017. A portrait of Moshe Galili by Silvia Gayler was commissioned by Bruce Castle Museum in Haringey in 2010.
